Yes Virginia, there is drag racing!
Dragway 42 hosts the longest running New Year's Day drag racing event in the United States on Tuesday with the 9th Annual Hangover Nationals.
Sunshine, rain, or snow... this event goes on!
The Hangover Nationals is open to any street legal vehicle. Competitors race heads-up on a 20.08 dial-in. The first machine to the finish line without running quicker than 20.08 is the round winner.
Since New Year's Day 2000 this event has grown from a few dozen people who wanted to be the first to race in the new millennium an event that turned out nearly 250 competitors from 4 different states last year.
Competitors who win 3 or more rounds of eliminations at this year's event will take home a trophy. The winner and runner up take home large trophies designed especially for this event.
Gates open at 11 AM with continuous time trials until the eliminations start at 2:30 PM.
The entry fee is $15 to race or $10 to watch. Kids under the age of 15 are admitted free.
This unique event DOES allow passengers in both time trials as well as during eliminations.
Come on out and enjoy the fun. Perhaps you will have the bragging rights as the first race winner of 2008.
