these guys used to make a upper for the gt40 lower http://www.reichardracing.com/holley_upper.php
but now all i see are uppers for the aftermarket lowers
but this is the intake im talking about
6778
Probe Industries EFI Spyder intake
but heres some reading on the testing for yeah...

granted all the tesing was done on a n/a motor, boosted motors pick up more from it

agreeded. that's the "in" setup for boost. both edelbrock and professional products make their own with rails. this use to be a expensive, custom setup until recently. cpr racing in california and edelbrock both make nice elbows. next in line would be a tfs-r box .... imo.
this is what me and rob are talking about, this is my car ...

Are you stuck on a box upper? The Holley intake is killer for boosted applications. I've heard the RPM2 is also great.

no not stuck on anything i just bought a gt40 lower so was trying to get something to match up thats all and willing to buy something better if thats what i need i guess i am open to ideas

it's possible to make anything work with aftermarket crossmember, coil overs and motor mounts. depends how bad you want something. although i think you'd be better off with at least a 1.5" cowl hood.

holley is a excellent intake, but the tfs-r box out cfm's the holley. the converted carb'd intake (like i mentioned above) with elbow outflows them all. must have the properly matched head and cam too to take full advantage of a setup like this.

What's your combo? Is this mostly a street car or track car? These questions will answer if you should run a long runner or box type intake.

mostly street but some track mostly stock bottom end stock heads mild cam and as much boost as she'll hold till it genades then building a builitt proof bottom end so would like to buy a good one to then match up to alot of boost like 20 25 pds on next motor ..... thats why i as thinking box style

the whole thing about it, he plans the stock motor beyond its limits. and once it does break, then its time for a built motor, and i'll bet he wants more turbo on top of that(IIRC the goal has been raised to 800hp) on mega boost. and mostly beating hard on the street, so killing torque was kinf od my main goal with going with the upper box on a stock lower, but i figured we could do better with the gt40 lower we have..but it seems no one is making a upper for those ...there are making upper's for the aftermarket lowers(which , yes mark you can order separately).

seems to be a decent price...but i think for another 100 or so, you cant get the spyder web like matt has, but its place would be better on the built motor. and you could always use the left overs on the wifes,,, just a thought

if not i can always put 3 member spacers in it, and drop mounts if push comes to shove

That intake worked great for me for a few years. Wasn't $200 on my credit card statement tho, closer to 'just over $300' for the upper.
They also sold it in GT40 configuration but once they stopped selling them, I got the very last stock lower model.
If I would have just pulled the trigger 6 months earlier :(

on the stocker it would be over kill.....but hell you have a explorer upper, then we could just use that, and you can by the spyder for the new motor...

+1 - use the Explorer intake for right now, it will be just fine on your current setup. As Rob said, buy the Spyder/Hurricane for the new engine.

Maybe you'd be best just getting a Cobra upper if you are using this on a stock bottom end and stock heads. A Holley or RPM2 would be too big for stock heads. Once you build a new engine, you could just sell this intake and buy a used Holley for instance.

If you still wanting somthing that looks a little different here is a intake my buddy built was alot cheaper than hogan. I smoothed the welds just needs a finished polish.
