I might be on bit of a rant here on this topic, but i'm getting tired of reading these forsale ads and people not posting a damn price on things. If you wanna sell something you must have a price in mind or you wouldn't be selling it! POST A PRICE! HOW HARD IS IT?
To me it's a waste of time and waste of a post if a price is not included in a forsale item. Your wasting people's time asking too PM for a price or make an offer. Just post an amount and stop the guessing game. If you don't know what to ask do some research on an item and them come up with a price.
So Can we make a rule if you cant post a price in a FS ad then don't bother posting an ad at all?

Don't forget the "feeler ads", they may be even worse. No price and they're not even sure they want to sell the f&*%ing thing.

We can create a set of rules for selling. Let me know what sounds good and I'll update it.
Must have asking price
Must have location of where the item is
Must have pictures
You can even moderate it Justin. :tongueout:

There is no need for a warning, either post according to the rules or dont post, it's just that simple.

The seller has a right to know why if they're posting just dissapears. Otherwise they may just keep doing it over and over untill they make another thread saying... WTF

I have spoken about this before. For a first offense the post should be removed and a PM sent tot he poster about why it was deleted. After that if the person cant follow the rules there is no reason to waste a moderators time, simply delete...

why not have a basic FS template. if you do not have that template in your FS ad, it gets wiped and you get a PM. sounds fair enough IMO

I agree this should be a sticky in the FS section..........Advisory.....read before you post in this forum. If they can't follow the simple guidelines then the thread is deleted and a PM is sent.
Simple as that.
So when do we start this? And what do we do with the threads already in violation? We should send a PM to orginal poster explaining the recent changes and please correct post?

Does everything have to have a picture? Like the stickers you sold Justin or the t-shirts that are sold?
GOBLIN

I think larger priced items, cars, heads, motor's, seats, body panels etc should have a pic. Stickers, decals a pic is the best way to show what the product looks like.
A Pic in my mind is a huge benifit to the seller and the buyer, it allievates alot of questions about a part. Some may not have access to a camera to take a pic or know how to post a pic (if i can figure that out, then i think most can), but that should be included in the post as to why no pic has been posted.
But for the most part a quick pic posted to a thread is not a extreme request. If anything it helps sell a part faster.

Is there anyway to create a basic template when a person clicks to make a new f/s thread. Like how ebay, for example, has a box for a description, price, location, etc and all the boxes need filled with something before the computer lets them submit the listing.. and maybe that'll force people to start doing it correctly.
Only if it would be easy for someone to setup...

How about marking things as sold, so you don't have to keep PMing asking if it's still for sale?

I looked through this thread and agree that all information should be listed or no sale. Personally, I will not buy anything without a picture. (Did one time, and it was a bit of a mess.) Today, requiring a picture should not be too much of a hardship, so I say make it so.
As for marking "SOLD," why not have a stipulation that the thread must be closed by the user when the item is sold. They have that capability, right? Of course, adding "SOLD" to the first line of the post lets the reader see that in the initial "float over." Also, For Sale threads with no activity for 30 days could be automatically purged (or closed).
The only trouble I see with purging is if there is a dispute, and the thread is needed for documentation, but there will be an archived record that could be "brought back," correct?

not sure VB can do that - but it would be ideal.

I'm currently testing this. http://www.buckeyestangs.com/vb/misc.php?do=forms That's why I wish JR would have waited to post what he did.
I can add/change pretty much anything. How does this look? If I make a drop down box with a selection of(Car for sale, parts for sale and Misc items for sale) we can eliminate the multiple sections and make it one.

I like what you've done there Kirk, Jr's works too. Either way glad we're moving in the right direction!
So the ads that are currently posted w/o this info.............These need to be updated as well. We don't need to delete these postings, but we do need to notify seller's of the change and have them corrected.
Any NEW FORSALE ADS POSTED EFFECTIVE 01/22/10 WILL FALL UNDER THE NEW GUIDELINES.

I would leave the individual sections, as this way a usr does not have to wade through all the different classifications to find the type of item they are looking for (unless there is a way to filter them when looking at the new format?)
I would also suggest a "trial period" before flipping the switch, but that's just me.

I've tried the form, and have a few suggestions:
I would:
1) Change "What are you selling" to simply "Item Name"
2) Make a (new) second position "Condition (New/Used, Miles, etc.)
3) Move "Item Description" to (now) Third position.
4) Then "Item Price," "Item Location," "ADD "Willing to ship (Y/N)" and finally "Preferred Contact Method."
EDIT: And remember, lots of people have multiple items for sale in the same thread. This should be formatted to allow this, otherwise things will start to get very cluttered IMO. If only one item per post, then I suggest a way to "copy" a form so users don't have to enter all the info each time.

One more thought: How about more than just one scrolling line to enter information? I can see someone trying to sell a car with eventy-billion modifications and boy, would that be a mess.

Any NEW FORSALE ADS POSTED EFFECTIVE 01/22/10 WILL FALL UNDER THE NEW GUIDELINES.All ads that are currently there will be grandfathered so they don't need to do the format unless they want to. New postings will need to follow them. I'm trying to get caught up enough to get ahead of this but I can't right now. JR's information will have to be the best we have until we can test a new system or figure out which way is better. Forum rules need to be changed to reflect this as well.
