Winter project

My project this winter is to smooth the engine compartment and completely repaint my car. Here are some pictures of the beginning stages. Poor pictures but the garage is not well lighted at night and I have a crappy camera. More to come soon, my panels just came in today for the back firewall and the 2 contoured panals for in front of the shock towers.

Well since I can not leave well enough alone I decided to have my intake, intake tubing from the intercooler and thermostat housing powdercoated while the engine is out for paint. Since I am also trying to clean up the engine as well I figured I would smooth out the intake before paint to make it look nice and remove the Edelbrock Victor Jr. cast in name. I want the intake to look smooth after powdercoat. Here are some of my progress pictures. I just started yesterday with some 60 grit so keep in mind this is just the beginning stages.

Intake is almost all smoothed out I will take more pics next week when done and ready for powder coat.

On a side note, I got to walk through Trick Flow a while back when I took some heads to TEA to get them flow benched. I think that I could just sit in there all day and look at the rack upon rack of aluminum that is in there lol!

Changing colors on the car now. My brother who is spraying the car would rather use base coat, clear coat instead of a single stage paint. So off to the House of Kolors color chart I go.......LOL

everything has it's pro's and con's, for sure. there is benefits to using the single stage urethane stuff, but for the "look" and durability no substitute for bc/cc. IMO, single stage just lacks the "depth".

Well I think I had a change in plans for the paint. I am pretty sure I am going to go with the Lazer Red that was on my 01' in the picture below with some ghost flames. Of course who knows by the time it gets painted I may change my mind again....:rofl:

ive heard redfire is a good alternative, i still cant decide what i want to paint mine between the two laser's and redfire :(

You will pay more for any red paint....


and i say leave the ghost flames for the movies.... just my opinion

for some reason or another no one on the autobody forums talks about HOC... the big names i see are glasurit, BASF, spi

When I had the 01' I was in accident when the roof of a GEO Tracker decided to come off the truck and blew through my windshield. At that point I had to have the front clip, hood, A pillers and B pillers all repainted. They guys that sprayed that did a perfect job and the paint came out awesome. I really liked this color and it really pops in the light.

Some progress has been made. The intake and thermostat housing are back from powdercoat. New wheels are in, I just need to get tires mounted and fender lips rolled. Panels are welded in the engine compartment, holes all welding up, and I started grinding and smoothing welds ( pics to come ). Oh I forgot the intake is being port matched to my 185cc heads.

i had no idea they sold plates like that for the engine compartment, really wish i did since i was doing the same thing last year. but mine was painted a simple flat black. looks good keep the updates coming

LOL, i wasn't sure if anyone was looking...

if anyone is wondering i used the aluminum foil on the wires ect underhood because its 100x easier that papering everything off and fooling with the tape. Just squeeze it together and it stays there

Possibly the jambs may see some color next weekend if i can get all the blocking done....

New dash pad on order and new valve body sitting at home ready to install.
