Prior to re-skinning the rear quarter I will be replacing the inner and outer wheelhouses….
Should I
a) pre assemble the inner and outer wheelhouses and weld them in as one unit before re-skinning the quarter?… This would probably result in a better fitted seem between the two wheelhouse halves, but may make it difficult to match up the lips on the quarter and the outer wheelhouse.
Or
b) should I go ahead and weld in the inner wheelhouse first …then fit the outer wheelhouse to the quarter skin …this would result in a better fit between the quarter and the outer wheelhouse but the seem between the two wheelhouses would most likely be rough..
I kind of favor option a)…but would like to hear from someone who’s been down this road already.
Obviously these are repops….

I'm doing this on my 66 right now. I'm installing 67 outer wells to stuff 275s back there. Anyway, weld the inner well in first, then the outer next and last do the skin. It'll be easier to weld the flanges together on the well seams.

The first one I did I welded the two wheel housings in first and as a result had trouble getting the wheel lip and outer housing to match up. I would not weld the outer housing in until you mock up both it and the quarter panel first. Use sheet metal screws to hold everything in place when you mock it up and then weld up the holes afterward.

You would never guess that the inner and outer halves are intended to be for the same vehicle. Although both made (re pop) by the same manufacturer, the alignment between them is awful! I dread how difficult it will be matching these all together with the quarter skin lip.
