okay a week and a half ago the car started overheating when i was getting off the highway.... so dawson helped me out did a T stat cause it was going up and down figured that was probably it. drove 45 mins on the highway somewhere, stayed cool and awesome it was fine. drive back 45 mins fine. as im getting off the highway it starts to get hot again? at this point im like WTF.

dawsons ran a pressure test and found a small leak in the waterpump gasket/front cover. as a last ditch effort i put some stop leak pellets in to stop the dripp that had started to occur. THis was thursday before the cruise. car is fine doesnt get hot at all drove to the cruise did my thang it was gravy.

Drive to lebanon tonight and all is good. Here where it gets wierd. Im always looking at the temp gauge now so i park at B dubs. look at the temp before i turn the key off it was the second notch from the bottom on a fox temp gauge. Go in my buddy eats and i go to leave 15-20 mins later gett in the car turn it on and litterally 30 seconds after i start it the heater starts blowing cold air and the temp shoots from where it was to a notch above halfway... Having allum. heads i shut it off and waited 30 seconds turn the key to see the gauge move. i crank it the temp is now dropped almost to the middle in 30 seconds. i fire it up pull out on the road and TaDAAA it drops to around 180!?!?!?!? drive home its fine, its a little above the second notch on the temp when i put it in the garage. i pop the hood to try to see if its leaking again. nothing. i release the pressure from the radiator and the coolant in the resivoir(SP) is boilng. or kind of boiling. the coolant light isnt on so im not thinking it leaked, i have no idea im puzzled

sounds to me like a possible head gasket, when it overheated did it blow cold air out of the heater? do a block test if you can will tell you right away.

i was hoping that wasnt it. but it stopped when i put the stop leak pellets in, and yes it was blowing cold air out.

but there is nothing in the oil or on the top of the cap and the coolant seems to be clean.

Sounds like a air pocket to me. Ever see any signs of leakage? If not, it might only leak when up to temp out the hole you found behind the timing cover.

Take the cap off and let it run. Keep adding water until it gets hot and "burps" it up. Then while its still running, add more until the radiator is full. Cap it and shut it off.

i think im going to have to go ahead and fix that gasket i dont think thoes pellets are a long term fix.

possible head gasket, possibly air locked in the system, or perhaps a bad theromostat. don't trust the stock gauge either. put a electric or mechanical gauge on there to really see what's going on.

Had one do the same thing, it was an air pocket. I always drill a tiny hole in my t-stat before I put one in so this doesn't happen. However, you had it before that, so try what GT350 told you. GL
