I need a new/rebuilt 302/306 short block. Anyone know any good engine shops that do decent machine work and rebuilds? I am considering getting this new short block for $699 http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/LRS-6009E
But I would rather get one from a nice local shop that people have had experience with and I can trust that everything was assembled/machined/balanced properly. Thanks.

you're in canton ? check out cams.
it's the modular motors i'd be picky about who machines and assembles them, they're tighter. most all competent shops should be familiar with the old 302.

i'd stay away from the lmr shortblock. you get what you pay for. i'm sure it has cast pistons and some "fast" machine work, not performance oriented. for a absoulte stock 5k rpm rebuild, maybe.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. Cast pistons are alright, all I need is a stock replacement. Something just as good as what came from the factory. This motor isn't going in the car in my sig.

then get a exploder 5.0 motor then.
most can be found for 350-450. and you can sell the heads and intake off of it if you dont want to use them

I'll give CAMS a shot then. Thanks for the tips. I would consider a used 5.0 motor if it was low mileage and still in great shape. Don't want to put something in the car if it's not going to last. Do you know if CAMS has access to complete shortblocks? The core I have probably will not be rebuildable for cheaper then I can just get a used 302 block for.

I've always heard good things about CAMS, too.
Also just saw THIS (http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1157308) listed on the Corral. No affiliation, etc.
