Any particular reason you seem to like raid 0?

Any particular reason you seem to like raid 0?

Simple, Hard drives even SATA drives are still usually your bottleneck in any pc. RAID 0 addresses that and gives you a speed increase that helps improve overall system performance...

If you are using it as a HTPC I still see no need for RAID 0. Even recording a full bandwidth HD feed a 10 year old hard drive can keep up with though.

If you wanted FAST hard drive speed raid 0 some Solid State Drives.

You are talking rediculous overkill....

Sure, anyone could go spend a couple grand on a pair of solid state drives and get wicked speed (and also much less space). But that's not the point. The point is RAID 0 will increase overall system performance at a reasonable cost PERIOD. Read/Write speeds are imperative to any OS and the better those numbers are the better your day to day tasks are. Sure a 10 year old disk could technically handle it, however it wouldnt do it nearly as efficiently...

Also as a "HTPC" as you put it I also Run Crysis which is the most demanding game on the planet. If you think RAID 0 is overkill you are sorely mistaken....

Back on topic please... This is a for sale thread, not a geek pissing match...:spank2:

The old "speed increase" line of thinking...

You are aware of the single biggest reason very few people actually use raid 0?

You are aware of how fast SATA drives are?

Supposed failure rate is high, however I have been running RAID 0 since the thunderbird days and have never lost an array. I am aware of how fast SATA drivers are especially considering this is wht this box is running.

AGAIN, this is not about RAID, its about a $300 PC FOR SALE!!

Geesh, you guys just like to argue for the sake of arguing...

I know you aren't selling the monitor/TV, but what kind/ size did you use for that set up? I have a Dell 21 inch now but have been looking at some bigger, better models.

That is actually our Samsung 42" High Def TV. It has a VGA port right on the back and looks amazing when hooked up to a PC. Keep in mind you need a beefy video card to push those high resolutions. I would suggest AT LEAST an Nvidia 8800GT...

I have a lady from craigslist saying she wants to buy it thursday when she gets her tax returns. However it is craigslist and I told her first person with cash takes it home. So for now it is still for sale. This is truly an excellent PC for only $300.
