I recently noticed I have a vibration coming from somewhere. It will vibrate at cruising speeds on the upshifts before it goes into the next gear. It dosent do it when you give it half or full throttle, just when your cruising or getting up to speed, or crusing then giving it gas to go faster. I figured it was the u-joints so I replaced them today and still have the problem. So as of right now I narrowed it down to two things it could be. The rear end or the tourque converter. So my question is has anybody ever had this problem? If so what was it? Can anyone help or have any idea what could be wrong?

My car is a 95 Gt Auto

Thanks

Is the driveshaft itself balanced? I'm sure you probably checked that when you did the u joints... Hmm other than that I'm not quite sure myself.

yep driveshaft is balanced, the new tranny has 1000 miles on it, it started the vibration about 200 miles ago

End of story.

it seems a little more serious, but I will try it

I had a bad vibration at freeway speed. balancing the tires made it go away. If your's does it when shifting....you may have other drivetrain issues...

Did you recently add 3.73s/4.10s/etc? Could be you are exceeding the critical speed of the driveshaft now in normal driving and hence why the vibe....

Pretty normal for cars to have it from 70-90 after thes swap and why the aluminum driveshafts have such great used value.

Good luck!

Also- could it be rpm related as if it happens before shifts then you are aat higher rpms than normal driving--- maybe an accessory problem/ fan bearing play?

It happens at speeds from 30-50, just depends, does it on the upshifts from 2nd to 3rd and sometimes any gear during cruising speeds when you give it a little gas. Its a pretty serious vibration/shudder.

Well George at AHP drove it today and we pretty much narrowed it down to an issue with the transmission so Im going to have a guy look at it tomorrow. Thanks again George for your time!!!!

I would also check your pinion angle, and check the harmonic balancer. The stock balancers are junk. They are a two piece design with hard rubber between the two pieces, and after lots of miles and hard driving they will fall apart.

Yea , we see that alot , some times they work there way against the timing cover and sometimes they fly off .

Yeah, it started off as me hearing a squeak a mile or less from work, and was wondering WTF it was, then just as i'm pulling in it let loose and was shaking my teeth out, so i coasted into a spot and popped the hood to find that. I consider myself extremely lucky.

I love my SFI approved balancer. 7800rpms and no vibration what so ever.

i bieleve it would be your torque converter!!!! being as you got a new transmission and are not saying anything about replacing the torque converter it would be my first guess !!!!

check your grounds for corrosion build up over the winter. I had the same problem once, but mine was the ignition module inside the distributor.

I have already repalced the module! but it will crank over!!! and could the ground from the battery still let it crank over, and not get no spark???

I just went through the exact same problem. found the bushing in the dampner in the rear end wasted... its the big hunk of metal bolted to the rear end under the the driveshaft . give it a good tug downward one side at a time. It can look like its on but...I had other ideas of what it could be and replace all kinds of stuff that it could be. If its not the problem still something to look for.
