WHO THE HELL ON HERE KNOWS HOW TO ADJUST A DETENT CABLE OR TV CABLE OR KICKDOWN CABLE whatever you guys call it. on a 86 fox body.

the car shifted and ran fine before we did a ford explorer gt 40p swap engine into it.

now that its all hooked back up useing the computer that is brand new. thats came in the new air density to maf conversion kit.

for some reason the car no matter were the detent cable is the car wont go out of first gear. and if we leave it unhooked. at one point the car wasshifting all the way into third. but no overdrive.

we have tried several differant computers. and ever put it back to stock . no luck.

also this seems to be happing. it will shift up a gear as long as it hits the rev limiter at 6k at wot. but wont kick down a gear at all. unless you manually put it into first or second.

also the car feels likethe TQ converter ant locking up. it bassically feels like free reving till 3000 and then it locks goes ripes the tires off, and shifts at 6000 when it hits rev limit.

so does anyone know of anyof this issue.

its a fuel injected maf conversion 98 ford explorer swaped gt 40 p setup. with a rebuilt only 1200 miles AOD TRANS. stock converter only has 30k miles on it. any ideas?????

COME ON PUSHROD GUYS I NEED SOME KNOWLEDGE.

Chris - the easiest way to get it close is to unlock the rod and slide it to the end of the cable so that it BARELY puts pressure on the cable.

The correct way is to use a pressure gauge plumbed into the pressure port on the passenger side of the trans.

www.clickclickracing.com (http://www.clickclickracing.com) has guides on how to do it. Have to get it right or the AOD will burn up quickly.

Oh and do yourself a favor right now - order the solid bushing repair kit from Ford, it might cost $8 but it saves on buying a cable.

Make sure the cable is hooked on the trans right. I had one that looked like it was hooked to the trans right but was not completely on. I noticed it when I got under the car and and was messing with the cable, it looked like it was okay but had partially came off so it was just sitting there on the ball. It was the weirdest thing, I chirped the tires backing up one day and the cable came part way off. I toke me forever to figure out what was wrong with it.

well im going to guess he toaded the trans. cuz he has run it several times with the cable unhooked to see what happpens. sometimesit shifted sometimes it didnt.

i told him it needs to be on. but cuz he got it to shift all the way into third without it he thought the cable was notit.

but it is hooked properly. the tv/detent arm on the side of the trans is hooked up properly and is tight, and the arm moves freely.

if it's a stock 1986 tv cable there is no adjustment on it. put a 87/up tv cable on it then you'll have the adjustable cable. i can adjust them bye feel, i have to drive the car aound the block a few times but i can get em just right 95% of the time. later, pete
