The Saturday and Sunday events in March will be a test and tune with an optional gambler race.

Much like what is being added to the Friday Night test and tune program this year, any participants who would like to be part of a bracket elimination will be called to the lanes for this part of the program part way through the event.

They will each pay $20 to get into the "gambler" race. The $20 entries will fund the purse will pay the winner and runner-up a split (usually 70% to win / 30% to runner-up) of that money.

Most of the gambler races at D42 pay out $300-$500 to the winner. The more people in the event, the bigger the purse.

gotcha so it's a bracket race tournament basically?

I'll stick to just running for fun. I'm not expecting anything spectacular but I'd love to see where I'm at. :)

How cold is the weather typically in March up here? I want to run this car in cold weather.

It could be snow up to our a**holes or 70's and sunny.

Last year the only decent day in March was the last Friday of the month. Dragway 42 was open and nearly 100 cars showed up to run.

To be honest, it is usually more of a matter of the pits being dry enough to park without tracking mud everywhere rather than the air temperature.

Jack, Toby, and John can make the track hook up well in 40's weather as was proven by all the wheels-up launches at the Thanksgiving Weekend event but if mud is going to be tracked everywhere, it makes it nearly impossible for them to open.

why is the mod class allowing 14.8's (9.49 1/8 mile) cars in that class? And decreasing the pay out from $1000 last year to $750 this year? Try to destroy the class, geez......:wtf: Yes you increased it to $1500 but only with a 64+ car count. How many times did that happen last year?

why is the mod class allowing 14.8's (9.49 1/8 mile) cars in that class?

Let's go one question at a time.

IHRA has changed the way the Summit SuperSeries champions in Box and No Box are determined beginning this year.

In the past, it was the racer with the best win/loss ratio from the first 30 rounds of eliminations. For No Box, that included Mod, Street, and Pro Bike.

This year that win/loss ratio (or as they called it, the "Performance Rating")
is no longer being used. It wouldn't be fair to the 80 odd Mod racers to see their champ face off against the 20 odd Street racers or dozen or so Bike racer's champs to see who would be the SSS No Box Champ.

Opening Mod up by an extra 1/2 second lets some racers who had 12 to mid14 second cars the option to move to Mod if they wished to be in the running for the $250,000 Summit SuperSeries World Championship.

And decreasing the pay out from $1000 last year to $750 this year?

1) Mod paid $800 to win for the past several seasons. There was a $200 TRACK POINTS BONUS if the winner was a member of points.

2) The payout is being RAISED from $800 to $1,500 (there is no points bonus in the weekly win purse for 2008) when the car count is 64 or more. Last year (before the purse was increased and before the class was opened up by the extra 1/2 second) the class AVERAGED around 62 cars, so 64 cars with the new program should be no problem.

Try to destroy the class, geez......:wtf: Yes you increased it to $1500 but only with a 64+ car count. How many times did that happen last year?

See #2 above. MOST events were 64+ cars in Mod last year.

wow, 14 sec cars in the mod class. Should change it to street class...... It really stinks that we have to raise the ET to get people involved. Now I ask myself "why do I even bother to mod my car to make it faster and install a t-brake" :idiot: Now you have the same chase as you did in street, 12.0 chasing 18.0 cars, now it is 9.0 chasing 14.0 cars.....not cool at all.

that is cool that they took the points money out, so that makes more since.

mod a pretty big class so I can see 64 cars almost every event.

wow, 14 sec cars in the mod class. Should change it to street class......

The old ET break was 0-7.99 1/8th mile...which converts to 0-14.0something on most charts. I don't remember the class being overrun with "street" cars and this extra 1/2 second isn't going to change that fact.

It really stinks that we have to raise the ET to get people involved.

No... the TRACK raised the ET by 1/2 second to allow cars that were in that 2 second overlap between Street and Mod to have a chance to run for a Summit World Championship, just like they could have during the first 5 years of the program.

I don't know if there is a single car that is effected by this (most guys whose cars could go either way already chose to run in the higher payout class) but I'm glad that we race at a track that was willing to make some adjustments to help some racers who might have been effected through no fault of their own.

At the risk of pissing you off, there haven't been enough cars racing since the '73 oil crisis to accomodate a ton of classes based on close ETs. Dragway 42 took the financial chance last year by offering 8 index classes, twice per month, for 5 straight months. It didn't generate enough entries to pay the purse.

I figured you would be the first in line to THANK the track for moving the slowest ET in Street points back to 17.99 from the 19.99 cap that has been in place for the past 2 seasons.

It's smooth and dust free. Of course that may change when the snow melts. :tongueout:

You should take a look at the entry roads at IHRA's new "Crysal Palace" and National Event track...Pittsburgh Raceway Park. I'm pretty sure a few toterhomes that traveled in for the IHRA Bracket Finals that are still stuck in the craters on PRP's entry roads off of US 22.

No 7.99 equals 12.4's, here the conversion sheet http://www.geocities.com/allstangs/Page.htm

That is a huge increase (12.4's-14.8's) not 1/2 second like you are saying and yes it opens the door for more racer but you stated mod gets 64+ at each event. So was that class lacking racers???? NO! I just don't get it and if you don't see where I'm coming from then so be it.......

Street does not effect me, I ran Mod because I was running 11.8-11.9's. This year I'll be faster so Street has not effected me in two years. I'm glad you did change it but I was not pointing out the street class only the mod class which I would run again this year. The 17.99 should of been done years ago.......

My previous reply to you had a typo, but all of the conversions were right.

The Mod Class WAS 0-8.99 (which converts to a bit over 14 flat on the 1/4 mile) and it is now 0-9.49. The Top Class runs on a 0-7.99 dial-in limit.

As I said before, the ET limit for Mod has only been expanded by 1/2 second for 2008.

The 17.99 should of been done years ago.....Toby and Jack are the ones who make those decisions. The expansion of street was done two years ago (after the first season of Saturday street as a money class) to accomodate some of the Wednesday street trophy cars who couldn't reach the more restrictive Saturday program ET breaks.

As they do on many things, they make a change when they think it will improve things for the racers. In this case, they've gone back to their original Street / Money guidelines for 2008.

That sucks. Bigtime.

As for the class limits - 14.anything in Mod sucks, we're going to ***** about it but we're still going to run it. Keep your damn fishing trucks, construction based F250's, soccer moms and their damn Ford Escapes over in street!

Consider this our smack talk to you - if you take it like a man, we'll slap you harder :box:

Like I said before, there wasn't any large group of upper dial in Mod cars last year and I don't see that changing this year.

It was amazing how 6.60's was a very popular ET grouping in both Top and Mod. The Pittsburgh track announcer was having a hard time with our team cars at the Bracket Finals because it seems like every 3rd car was dialed 6.66

I think Bryon Shanno's AMC was one of the slowest cars that competed regularly in Mod, and that is a low 13 second 1/4 mile car.

I'll promise not to b1tch when I have to spot you 2 seconds in the 1/8th mile eliminations. :p
