I guess since we have this section now I will post up, even though most of you know about it already. Assuming it doesn't sell I will be working on it here in a few weeks.

Currently as it sits:

Unfortunately though there is a pretty loud noise when I press the clutch pedal. My current suspicion is that the clutch fork bolt backed out, so I will have to spend a day and take the trans off to fix it.

Also, Drew has offered to help me re-wire everything and make it much neater, which would be awesome (although I'm not sure if he is aware what he is in for haha). I plan to wire the e-fan to come on using the computer instead of a switch, or at the very least make some sort of switch panel to clean everything up.

I also need to eventually track down why I hit what feels like fuel cut around 5200 rpm, which has happened since I installed the LT1. My suspicion here is a weak fuel pump but I can't verify that until I get the other issues sorted out and test it under load with a fuel pressure gauge.

Nothing too costly or time consuming this winter, I need to save up for a new DD, preferably one with AWD once August rolls around.

Sounds good man. Be a man and keep it. If it's missing up top I wouldn't be surprised if it's the fuel pump, but I would check your everything out first. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the dreaded optispark.

I want to see that thing make some passes at D42 this summer!
Get her done. Don't sell it like a vag.

Funny you put it like that. It actually smells like a farm inside of it.

It could be the Optispark, but I will check fuel pressure first. It doesn't miss really, it basically hits a brick wall. As in, it basically throws me forward when I hit 5200 rpm. I've never rev'd it above 5700 because I can't get it to spin that high, it just dies, almost like it hit a rev limiter/fuel cut. Once I had this happen a few times when I wasn't expecting it I didn't feel like trying it again for fear of damaging it.

It used to, it is actually pretty normal smelling in there now.

I would check also how much fuel the pump is moving as well. Disconnect the fuel line going to the rail and put it in a can. It should put out 1 pint within x amount of seconds. It depends upon what the rating of the pump is (example 190lph, 255lph, ect).

That's what I mean, I'm not sure it can supply enough fuel at higher rpms, but a pressure gauge should pick this up. I'm sure it has enough pressure at idle, but because it needs more volume at higher rpms I'm not sure if it can keep up, which should show up as a drop in pressure in the lines.

After talking to my friend and describing it to him he thinks it might be more ignition related instead, because it really doesn't depend on the load. Even if if I'm only at partial throttle it still won't rev above 5200 without a serious power drop. I dunno, I'll take a look at it eventually, maybe I'll just replace the Opti while it is out to be safe.

No, I bought it from Kentucky. That should explain a lot. The essence of Kentucky has pretty much left though.

Opti ftl... we should fix that and just drop in an LS1. ;)

Just let me know when you want to get started and we'll make it look like Mazda offered the LT1 as an option.

LS1 - why downgrade?

I am pretty sure that the LS1 is overhyped. Besides, he doesn't need something that fast... :tongueout:

I'm thinking if there is a day next week that is semi not freezing I may think about working on it. It will be a nice way to forget this coming week of pain.

John,
Put a gauge on the fuel. You can pull the valve out of schrader valve and install a fuel gauge there.Make sure it has 38 to 42 PSI with the vacumn line on. Should go up to a max of 42 to 45 at WOT. The 5200 rev sounds like the Opti,Very common break up at that RPM for a bad opti.

UPDATE:

Transmission noise is gone. The clutch fork bolt was hand tight. I will post video of it when I can get it uploaded.

W00t! Indeed we did.

However, someone offered me an even trade for an MX-5, better known as a Miata. ;) He offered to drive up here from DC, drop off the Miata, and trailer the 7 back.

Now why would I ever consider this? Because I can use the Miata as a fun daily (no power, but it weighs ~2180lbs). Also, this leaves me with enough money to buy something real nice in the summer, such as an LS1 T/A, LS1 FC, an older Cobra, etc, because I can use the Miata as a daily.

I know it sounds like a serious step down from 300hp to 116, but at the same time, it frees up cash for down the road. I haven't decided yet but I'm seriously considering it.

What good is 300HP if you can't/won't drive the sucker? You can always drop a V8 in the Miata later.

Zach and I were talking about this, I feel that you just don't want to get beat by another one of my cars especially if it is a Miata. ;)

The new optispark is in, and I started on the wiring. I will have to wait and see if the optispark fixed the issue--I couldn't drive the car since Ben's truck was blocking the driveway and I needed more coolant.

I may also drop in a Supra TT fuel pump for the added JDM factor, I hear that you can gain around 350 rwhp. ;) (Actually they are apparently a direct bolt-in and they have slightly higher flow than a Walbro 255.) I don't need it now but it would be nice to know that fuel won't be an issue.
