I'll keep this updated as long as I remember things. And will add pics of whatever mods I gather.

Here's the combo as it was in 2k7

1986 Mustang GT
302cid
Bryans All Pro Transmission built AOD
DirtyDog 3800 converter
TEA Ported Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads
1.6 Rockers
Explorer intake
70mm Throttle Body
MSD Ignition
Underdrive pullies
Mac shorty headers
Off road H pipe
Flowmaster cat back
UPR Pro lower control arms
4.10 gear
Griffon aluminum radiator
Strange 10 way adjustable front struts
QA1 coilovers 200lb spring
Strange 10 way adjustable rear shocks
Summit Sport rims 15x4 w/ General 165R15
Summit Sport rims 15x8 w/ Hoosier QTP 26x11.5x15

60' - 1.8369
ET - 12.9420
MPH - 104.63
DA - 3355

246rwhp
318rwtq

With the Dirty Dog converter it 60'd in the low 1.7's but couldn't match the MPH or backup the 1 and done 12 second run. Car ran consistent in the 13.0-13.teen range. Complete Failure :beef:.

2008 Goal: 11.oh's, consistency, event wins, D42 team, FUN, no breaking (My car or friends) and FUN.

Bold in case I fail (again) it's easy to find ;)

2008 additions
Quick Time Turbo Systems Hot/Cold side with Precision pt6776*
QA1 Tubular K-member*
Flaming River manual rack*
Jegs Max Box intake*
TFS 1" Phenolic spacer*
3.27 gear*
Sumped fuel tank*
True roller timing chain*
CHP main girdle*

* = Items already purchased

Items still needed
Walbro GSS340 in-tank fuel pump (Temporary)
31 spline diff and axles
Ford Racing F303 camshaft
Maf PCM
Injectors
SCT Big Air meter
Hoosier QTP rears
Bias Ply Front Runners
Billet fuel rails
-8an fuel feed line (engine)
-6an fuel return line (engine)
Dirty Dog restall
SilverFox manual valve body

Late 2008 mods
C4 transmission*
Transbrake
Sumped fuel tank*
Dual Walbro GSL392 pumps
-8an Tank to Engine feed
-6an Tank to Engine return
Fuel filter
AN fittings and misc
Aftermarket block (if a killer deal comes up in Feb-April)

Still need to find a way to add: UPR DA upper control arms, solid housing bushings, upper/lower battle boxes, anti-roll bar

Not sure what else is available for me to yank for weight - the car is staying complete interior. I'll more than likely remove the front bumper support and any wiring and other junk associated with Cruise Control, A/C, Smog, etc...... On the Z28 I removed 18lbs by taking off the ABS unit alone.

If, IF, the car runs faster than what my goal is then i'll be adding a sub box and amp to slow it down. Hell, i'll run with full tanks of gas if I have to, turn the boost down, etc... whatever it takes to run in the same ET area that my friends/family are running in for points. I just want to be close to Kurt, Johnny, Steve, Waswa and whoever else joins us in points - gonna be a friggin BLAST!!

But let's face it - while all these mods may look good in a post or on paper this is the real world - this car may run like crap, not et, not hook, break, etc.... anything can happen, but such is the game we play.

Good luck to everyone in 08 - hope to see more people join us in points racing.

Sounds like a plan man! Why are you going all the way back to 3.27's? That'll make one hell of a highway car.

Doubt it. Hoosiers/stall/suspension. It being an auto makes it different than a stick shift.

Much higher gearing and it will run out - turbo's love low gearing. A lot of the guys with these setups run 3.08 gearing.

I really don't see much more than 2 weeks of work on the car. Pull the engine, paint it, install cam, install intake, install girdle - 3 hours max.

Install Kmember, rack - reinstall engine.

Car cover until turbo arrives

Just a suggestion. If redoing the entire fuel system, go with 10AN feed and 8AN return lines. A good fuel pump is limited by the size of the lines.

Have fun with the 5,000 rpm spool :)

That's actually not that bad. It's more like 3-3.5k rpm till it's fully spooled, and being an automatic he'll maintain full boost once he gets there.

Darkhorse
12-31-2007, 07:15 PM
LOL - better do some reading :spank2:

The a/r size is what dictates most of the spool characteristics. I happen to be running a .68 a/r which is on the smaller side so that full boost should be seen around 3200 rpm. With my converter being restalled and tightened to 32-3400 it should *should* match up well.

Kit arrived today via UPS.

First thing that I noticed was the packaging (duh). New boxes, very well taped and secure.

Opening the boxes I started to take notice of the way the pipes/parts were packaged. Everything was very nicely taped, bubble wrapped and then wrapped again with a nice shipping cloth material. Very nice touch, easily could have used newspaper or some cheap packaging paper.

The powdercoating job on the cold side is very well done, clean, smooth, excellent color. The hotside was the same way, nice and smooth. Kudos to his coater. I have a few items coated by a couple different coaters locally and Brian Noble in Schaumburg Illinois who I consider one of the best coaters out there. This work is on par with the items that i've had done at both places.

Intercooler looks to be of very nice quality, Tial 38mm wastegate is a nice shiny piece that was seperately packaged. Flanges on the headers are thick, i'll take a measurement tomorrow - they're nice n thick.

Welds: I'm no welder but they look great. No breaks, splatter, etc...I'll have Handyman check them since he's a certified welder.

I can only give a review on the packaging, customer service, price, shipping so far, but, all of the areas listed are an A+

Customer service - which was my biggest selling point - has been fantastic. I can't stress that enough about Bernard - he's a blue collar racer that seems to really have an interest in his customers goals and feedback.

I can't think of much else right now but if there's any questions i'll be more than happy to answer as best I can - you have to remember that i'm completely new to turbos so i'm not very well versed on terminology yet.

Received 2 T-shirts and a sticker as well. How's that?!!

Oh, the main piece - Precision PT6776H 67mm turbo head unit is a nice unit. Not much to comment on that, it is what it is.

Cost:
Base kit w/ MasterPower T70 - $2995 shipped
+
$250 upgrade to Precision 76mm turbo

Merry f'ing Christmas to me.

Yeah that's pricey but they do come with everything - fuel, ignition, maf, injectors, etc....

With the QuickTime you supply all of that which makes the kits really affordable.

Another guy bought a QT with a 76mm GTS ball bearing, 44mm wastegate and some other upgrades and I think he spent a little over 4k which is a killer deal.

Update:

Got a lot done on the car today.

Swapped the intake manifolds
Installed upper intake
Distributor is back in
Headers installed
Crossover pipe installed
Valve covers installed
Oil sending unit installed
New plugs

Not a whole lot left to do now. Install injectors, re-position MSD box, relocate radiator overflow, install cold side, intercooler, blow off valve, wastegate, radiator and tie up a few odds n ends.

Biggest thing left is dropping the k member and installing the new front end which i'll have done this weekend.

I have no idea, only thing stopping me from finishing it right now are the temps outside. Even with a heated garage it's just too cold, needs to get back in the mid 20's-30's and i'll finish it.

Darkhorse
01-21-2008, 04:59 PM
Time for another update - this weekend was crap because of the temperatures. Even with a heated garage your asking for too much laying on frozen concrete. I put the k member install off, hopefully for a day or 2 max - just need upper 30's temps and i'll do it.

Finished up some stuff like remounting the MSD ignition, finished up the injectors, tightened the hot side, installed the wastegate, distributor and wires now on, etc.... little stuff like plugging everything back in as well. Alternator, injector harness, oil sending.......

1 problem i've noticed so far - my trick new valve covers may not work, i'm not sure yet but they seem to have a slight clearance issue with my AOD TV bracket.

I'll look into it later, I should still be able to start the car with them on. If not, I get that set of cool sheet metal valve covers that the wife wants.

Funny thing is, so many people are hoping this blows up on the first pass. God forbid I embarrass someone by running fast and making little rwhp.

What's even funnier is that nobody knows how much I have saved up for a block right now. I could very easily drop a stock shortblock in the car and continue racing.

I'd like this to hold together for 2 years so I can put together a stout shortblock based on a Ford Boss block - we'll see what happens.

After I install a new block, it'll be ''the trans isn't going to last'', ''the rearend isn't going to last'', ''your back window is foggy'' blah blah blah blah

I'm thinking ''don't you have an assload of work that you should be doing to get your super hot rod back on the road?''

Removed the stock k-member/power steering rack/upper intake/ignition box and dropped the oil pan. It's now ready to have the oil return welded in tomorrow and put back on along with the new oil pump and hd driveshaft, tubular k-member and manual rack.

From there I have 4 cold size pipes to install, intercooler, maf, and fuel pump. Of course theres all of the other small things that have to be done as well.

Engine is down in the cradle and bolted to the solid motor mounts
Turbo is officially installed (again - final)
Oil return installed
Oil feed installed (again)
Downpipes are installed
Intake is back on (again)
Water pump is off
Billet alternator brackets will be installed as soon as they get here
A/C condensor brackets are off - installing intercooler now
Part of the cold side is installed - intercooler needs to go on to finish

Installed new standard rotation water pump
Water pump pulley
Alternator
Billet Alternator brackets - adjustable so I could ditch the hunk of aluminum that the alternator mounts to and also lose the ugly Ford tensioner.

Turbo kit is 100% installed as of 4:15 today.

Next up:
SCT BA meter
Fuel Pump
Install the PCM
Wire the conversion

Tie up a bunch of little items like rerouting some wires away from heat, pulling the manual rack to replace some set screws on the shaft, couple brackets here and there and that should do it.

After it's running I have to then pull the trans back and send the converter down to DirtyDog for a 1 piece billet front cover and restall.

I'm now considering buying a complete rearend w/ 31 spline axles, carrier, gears, cover, either 9" ends or c clip elims

Having the radiator cleaned and checked by Mackey radiator.

Ran into some problems with the transmission cooler. It's not going to fit on the back of the radiator as it has been because of the intercooler.

I may have to fabricate a plate and mount it near the rearend and put a fan on it.

That means longer braided lines are needed, I think.

Moser 31 spline axles
Moser C clip eliminators
Moser bearing kit
Moser 5/8th's drive studs

Update: Not much to update but..

Radiator, fans, serpentine belt, hoses, all installed.

Having a m'fer of a time with valve cover clearance because of the TV cable on the AOD. I had to buy another set of valve covers then pray to all the Nordic Gods to get it to clear. Now I have to get 6 studs for the intake to mount it because of the added spacer. This thing is going to have gobs of torque down low, so much for the short runner/high rpm intended application of the intake :D

Oh well, I could have said screw it and installed the C4 but I don't want to do that right this minute. I'd like to see what the AOD can hold while prepping the C4 for later this year.

Once the SCT BA2800 is installed I can start the car - it's on order now just waiting for it to come in.

Repositioned the intercooler and had to ''modify'' the inside of the front cover again. Note all the fiberglass shavings :)

http://img2.putfile.com/main/2/4019025751.jpg

Breathers have to be drilled for the new covers but they're pretty

http://img2.putfile.com/main/2/4019025715.jpg

Kinda hard to see but there is barely a pubic hair clearance on the TV cable and bracket

http://img2.putfile.com/main/2/4019025763.jpg

2" phenolic spacer - wow.

http://img2.putfile.com/main/2/4019025753.jpg
http://img2.putfile.com/main/2/4019025718.jpg

Next up

1) Relocate the connectors to the main harness as they are interfering with the hood.
2) Replace all of the set screws in the Flaming River manual rack steering shaft.
3) MAF conversion harness needs installed with new PCM
Install the SCT meter
4) Mount 6AL box under the drivers seat, decided to move it due to possible heat
5) Relocate radiator overflow

Once the meter, pcm, and harness are installed i'll start the car - should be this week/weekend if my parts arrive.

Gonna be selling my 8.8 soon, I have a guy interested in it already but keep that in mind. Currently has 4.10's in it but can easily swap gearsets - have a 3.27 gear available. Also have a brand new in the box trac loc rebuild kit.

I have an 8.8 already with 3.73 gears that I am switching over to a 3.31 gear. We are getting ready to sand blast the rear and weld the axle tubes. I would like to switch over to 5 lug but I can't afford to get new wheels/tires yet. If you know of anyone looking for some 4 lug cobra R wheels let me know.

Picked up some new parts over the weekend and made some more progress/regress :)

The new rearend is now here along with the UPR upper control arms. Still waiting for a UPS box of parts that include the Walbro fuel pump, VSRacing turbo blanket and custom y-pipe.

Hopefully I can get the exhaust put on it to quiet it down while I idle the car checking for leaks - which I had my fair share of this weekend.

The SCT flip chip is in and programmed so that I can at least idle the car checking for all of these issues - thanks BigShot, again - she's a coming along tho.

Need to mark the balancer and get the base timing set, bypass the heater core which took an early exit and continue to reassemble the car.

Rearend is now in, thank God - and Johnny. I got stuck trying to install the uppers; a little tough to work the jack, hold the rearend from rotating and work in the uppers all at once by myself

VSRacing blanket came in, took about 30 seconds to install that. Relocated the radiator overflow tank and started to drop the gas tank for the fuel pump install tomorrow.

Driveshaft has to go to another shop for the flange to be pressed on so that gets dropped in the morning. The y pipe is at the shop now having the v band clamps welded on to that and the downpipe, so the exhaust should be done tomorrow if I finally decide on what mufflers to run.

Beyond that, I have to find a pair of Draglites for the car since the Summit wheels do not accept 5/8'' drive studs.

Should be done Friday or Saturday and ready for the dyno?
