DirtyDog 3800 here.
$500+ for a good one.
Have used Edge in the past - another good converter, but the Mustang guys don't seem to have the same success as the GM guys have with Andre.

I'm a bit curious on this topic too...
I think it has a lot to do with matching the torque converter to the application you're using it on. I'd more than likely tell a professional your combo in order for them to adequately match up the converter to what your needs are.
In my instance I need a torque converter to allow me to launch at my peak torque at the drag strip, so I'm guessing I'll need to have something to allow me to launch around 3000 rpm.

A good TC builder will ask:
Intended use
Gear ratio
Transmission (Duh)
Vehicle weight
Engine mods
Dyno results (if available)
If they don't ask you these questions at some point in the discussion, thank them for their time and call someone else.
Be HONEST with your Intended use - that's critical. ET's or daily driver that hits the track twice a year? There really is no best of both worlds - you WILL sacrifice something.
Guy like me has no problems daily driving a non lockup 3800 stall converter - other guys may not like the fact that I hold revs around 2800-2900 rpm at highway speeds.
Easy for a TC builder to get your combo right based on mods but you can screw the whole thing up if you answer wrong on "What do you want to do?"

Dirty Dog makes great converters, as does Circle-D specialties. Circle-D built mine...4000 stall. Listen to what everyone else has said and get the converter custom built for your car. I can't speak for dirtydog, but I know that Circle-D will do one free restall if you decide to change something. I imagine Dirty Dog would do the same. Just about any converter company worth thier salt should do that for you.
Expect to pay $600 plus, especially if you go with a billet front cover (which I would recommend)
