Dragway 42 had/has 2 of these per month on Friday nights May-September.
The remaining events are:
Fridays, August 10 and 24
Fridays, September 7 and 21
The track runs 8 heads-up classes, 4 for money and 4 for trophies
Money Classes
5.70 and 6.40 on a .4 pro tree - 1/8th mile
7.00 and 8.00 on a .5 pro tree - 1/8th mile
Trophy Classes
13.00, 14.00, 15.00, and 16.00 on a .5 pro tree - 1/4 mile
These are part of the track's regular street race, grudge race, and test-n-tune.
You get a free entry into the trophy classes with a paid test-n-tune ($10 car and driver). The money classes have an added $10 charge that funds a 100% payback purse in each class.
You are allowed to double up and run two classes. There have been double up winners in 6.40 / 7.00 cash and 8.00 cash / 13.00 trophy this year.

Nice!
Anyone participating in any of these? Too bad there isnt a 12.0 index- my car runs 13.0 @ 109 and there is a lot left in it so I would be breaking out left and right Oh wait I guess I could do the 8.0 1/8th.... hmm
Thanks!

If you run 13.0@109 how do you think you will be even competitive in the 12.0 if they had it?
Let's say you get your car hooking up well and you start cutting 12.4's@110 and you race a guy running 12.0's@113 AND he cuts great lights...you are not going to beat him unless he cuts a red light or somthing breaks.
Now it is about how the car runs and not really how good of a driver you are...unless you are both sitting on the index or run the same time like a 12.4 vs a 12.4.
Anyways...good luck.

I short shifted on my one and only run so far for 109 mph... I should be shifting at 6600 but shift at 6000 with the factory tach (likely 5700-5900). With the rwhp and weight of the car it is capable of 114-115. 365 rwhp/3140 lbs with me in it.
And I was saying that I could easily run a 12.9 with the same launch/shifting etc and break out as I took my wife with me on my one and only run. Unless I don't understand index racing I think it would be dumb to try to race competitively in an index where the first run a driver has had down the track with this setup is at the index.
Thanks for your concern.

For anyone who has questions about heads-up, "index" class racing it is much like regular "dial you own" bracket racing with a couple of exceptions.
1) The index is fixed for everyone in that class. Breakout rules apply but you will always be "heads-up" on the Christmas Tree.
2) Most bracket classes run on a 3 amber, .5 between the bulbs, full Christmas Tree. In heads-up "index" classes, you are on a Pro Tree with all 3 amber bulbs coming on at the same time, then the green. Depending on the class, the time between the amber and the green is .4 or .5 seconds. For Dragway 42's events the 5.70 and 6.40 heads up classes are .4 pro tree and the 7.0, 8.0, 13.0, 14.0, 15.0, and 16.0 classes run on the .5 pro tree.
Depending on you/your car's reaction times, a good starting line driver can be successful even if the car is not capable of running at or below the index. For example, if you are a killer on the tree and cut .0something lights and your opponent can never get a better light than .1something, you've got a tenth to play with at the finish line.
Just like regular bracket racing, the first one across the finish line without redlighting and without running under the index is the winner.
IMHO, the cool thing about Dragway 42's program is you get a free entry into the 13, 14, 15, or 16 second classes with your paid Test and Tune admission. If you want to give it a try, there isn't a better time than when it is free to try. If you get knocked out of competition in the heads-up class you still get to test and tune the rest of the night.
