Broke the car today

4th pass I launch, the car dead hooks and runs up to 5900 where I click the lever into 2nd gear. The car slams 2nd but almost simultaneously stops pulling, so I let out and coast to the turnoff. I checked the engine by revving a couple times and rowed thru the forward gears - nothing.

As it sits it will not engage any gear at all - no forward, no reverse - and there's a loud whine coming out of what I think is the front of the transmission area. I'm thinking it's something either with the converter, input shaft area. I won't know until the car is here and I can tear it down.


UGGGG - this is a fresh rebuild with a hardened 1 piece art carr shaft and an art carr billet converter.

If the trans is smoked i'm just gonna move to a c4 w/brake and get it over with.

Buddy of mine broke an Art Carr converter in his Regal T a number of years ago. I'm wondering if they're not all they're cracked up to be. (Or maybe they are and that's the problem?) :noidea:

Ouch......big time. Look at breaking parts as a chance of upgrading. I plan on running the piss out of my new setup, and only replace it once it breaks.

Heard the Lentec AOD's are pretty strong.. should look into those..

I haven't had much luck at all with any OD transmission with power being pushed thru it so i'm a bit leary about spending the coin that it costs for a "good" OD tranny.


I ended up going with a C4 conversion that i'll pick up Friday.

was the 83/84 kinda like a purplish/maroon color with brown interior? if so, that's my bud..he was there with his bud that has a 85/86 running 11.3's. mild combo, 200 shot

Nah it was a red one - sumped tank, stripped interior.
